{"id":1496,"date":"2016-08-02T22:26:36","date_gmt":"2016-08-02T21:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevenwhiting.com\/blog\/?p=1496"},"modified":"2016-08-15T21:35:11","modified_gmt":"2016-08-15T20:35:11","slug":"1496","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevenwhiting.com\/blog\/?p=1496","title":{"rendered":"error code 0x8007007B Windows 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/social.technet.microsoft.com\/Forums\/windows\/en-US\/4615d78e-8322-42d2-ae96-634c1b61c617\/error-code-0x8007007b-when-activating-windows-8-ent?forum=w8itproinstall\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/social.technet.microsoft.com\/Forums\/windows\/en-US\/4615d78e-8322-42d2-ae96-634c1b61c617\/error-code-0x8007007b-when-activating-windows-8-ent?forum=w8itproinstall<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I had the same issue and found this fix on a blog:<\/p>\n<p>I came across the following error message when activating Windows 8 Enterprise x64 RTM en-gb, downloaded from MSDN:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cError 0x8007007B\u00a0 The File name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Solution<\/p>\n<p>Using the key provided to you (MSDN etc.) you will need to run the following in an elevated command prompt \u2013<br \/>\nif you are new to Windows 8, click Start \u2013&gt; type \u201ccmd\u201d \u2013&gt; right-click on a command prompt and select \u201cRun as administrator\u201d in the bottom of the page:<\/p>\n<p>Next type the following commands:<\/p>\n<p>slmgr.vbs \/ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX<\/p>\n<p>slmgr.vbs \/ato<\/p>\n<p>The first command will update the key.<\/p>\n<p>The second command will activate Windows.<\/p>\n<p>Replace the &#8220;XXXX&#8221; bits with your Windows 8 Key (you do need to enter the dashes and you don&#8217;t need to surround it with double quotes).<\/p>\n<p>Siv<\/p>\n<p>Graham Sivill &#8211; Martley, Worcester.
